Southeastern Food Bank, Food For Families Food Drive

From Aug. 11 to Sept. 30, McCoy’s Ocoee Branch collected non-perishable items and canned goods during the Food For Families Food Drive. Overall, they were able to donate nine boxes of items, which included soups, cereal, canned fruit and veggies, bottled water and more, to Southeastern Food Bank to support their efforts of nourishing families in need in our community. McCoy Team Member, Heather Whitman, shared that she was encouraged by the community’s response to this year’s food drive and that she is thankful they were able to take part in the event.

Kristina Smith, Ocoee’s Branch Manager, said, “I believe that giving back is one of the greatest life lessons we learn. The fact that we were able to help feed those in need shows that McCoy Cares.”

West Orange Chamber of Commerce, Horizon West Report

On Sept. 9, representatives from McCoy’s marketing team and the Hamlin branch attended the West Orange Chamber of Commerce’s Horizon West Report luncheon at The Rosen Event Center on the Rosen JCC Campus. This presentation featured a panel that included Pamela Gould, OCPS Board Member; Ken Kupp, Partner at Boyd Development; Amy Mercado, Orange County Property Appraiser; and Chris Testerman, Orange County Assistant Administrator. Each panelist provided insight about how the plans for Horizon West and the surrounding areas are coming to fruition. This important information will be beneficial as we build McCoy’s member base at our newest branch in Hamlin.

ONYX Magazine, Men of Honor Awards

On Sept. 16, ONYX Magazine recognized 19 of Florida’s most influential Black men at the annual Men of Honor Awards, held at the Grand Bohemian Hotel in downtown Orlando. In addition to Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings, Retired Judge Belvin Perry and Alzo Reddick, founder of UCF’s Soldiers to Scholars Program, among many others, McCoy’s very own President/CEO Alvin Cowans was one of this year’s Men of Honor. It’s fitting that he was honored this year, with the theme being “Commitment to Mentorship,” as we all have experienced his mentorship first-hand as part of Team McCoy. Congratulations AC!

Overture Hamlin, Meet and Greet with McCoy

Members of McCoy’s Marketing Team visited residents at Overture Hamlin on Sept. 27. Over a hearty breakfast, Danielle Torres and Lyndsay Fogarty discussed the products and services available to them at McCoy’s Hamlin Branch, played several rounds of Financial Bingo and answered their questions. This “Meet and Greet with McCoy” was a success, and we look forward to a continued partnership with Overture Hamlin.

Community Involvement with 27 Community Connection

It was a busy month with our friends at WFTV. McCoy supported the Battle of the Bands 5K, UNCF Virtual Walk for Education – Orlando and SimplyIOA Corporate 5K through our partnership with 27 Community Connection. As a sponsor of these events, it is exciting to see our community thriving.

Community Sponsorships

In addition to our sponsorships with 27 Community Connection, we also supported many other organizations throughout the month of September. Donations were made to Grace Medical Home, the Lake Mary Police Department’s National Night Out event, and the Orlando Police Department’s “Cops with Ice Cream” initiative. McCoy began a new partnership with the PTSOs at Water Spring Middle School and Horizon High School to further our involvement with local schools and teach financial education to students. President/CEO Alvin Cowans visited students at Jones High School for a Financial Education Day on Sept. 15. Additionally, McCoy is once again sponsoring the 2022 Orange County Utilities Water Conservation Calendar and was featured as a key sponsor for the Golfing Fore Autism Charity Tournament, presented by Autism & Related Disabilities Gym Program, Inc., and City of Orlando’s Fore! Children Celebrity Golf Tournament.
