In November 2024, McCoy provided a $5,000 donation to Hamlin Elementary School through the McCoy Cares Foundation. The funds were used to assist the school’s media center with purchasing books to meet the AASL recommended standard of 15-20 books per student. Representatives from the Foundation visited with students and faculty to see how the donation would make an impact on the school community.
“Not only is literacy an important building block for students to establish a successful academic career but books foster creativity and nourish imagination,” said Alvin Cowans, President/CEO of McCoy Federal Credit Union and President of the McCoy Cares Foundation. “We are proud to work together with our community to support Hamlin Elementary School as they build their school library, and we hope that the students find stories that inspire them to learn.”
On April 4, 2025, President Alvin Cowans and Executive Director Lyndsay Fogarty accepted an Orange County Public Schools Outstanding Partner in Education award for the donation to Hamlin Elementary School’s media center. It is an honor to have the opportunity to give students the means to increase their knowledge and inspire their imaginations.
